Coveted Appointment for Rafiq Rokerya

Ontario, Canada: Rafiq Rokerya of Mississauga has been appointed on the Election Campaign Finance Committee for four years. He is the first Pakistani to be appointed on the coveted position by the City of Mississauga.
Rokerya is a CGA and has been serving the Canada Revenue Agency (Taxation) at the Federal level. He will be serving the honorary position under the Municipal Act 1996.
A well known and well respected, social and political personality of the Pakistani community living in Ontario, Canada, Rafiq Rokerya will serve until year 2010 under the Municipal Election Act of 1996 of Ontario. Amongst the population of 7 lakhs of the City of Mississauga, only 5 citizens have been honored with such a distinguished appointment and Rokerya is the only Pakistani amongst them.
In an interview Rafiq Rokerya mentioned that he was born in Karachi Pakistan; he completed his Matriculation from BVS Parsi High School Karachi, and migrated to Montreal Canada in 1973. He obtained his B.Com. from Sir George Williams University (now Concordia) in 1978 and completed his CGA professional designation from McGill University.
He has been working with Canada Revenue Agency for last 26 years as a Manager of Audits in the Verification and Enforcement Division. He was also a part time lecturer at the Concordia University teaching Financial and Managerial Accounting to undergraduates.
