COPAA Presses for Tariq Azizuddin’s Release
It has been more than a month since the Pakistan Ambassador to Afghanistan and the former Consul General Los Angeles, Mr. Tariq Azizuddin, was abducted in the Khyber Agency. We are extremely concerned that despite assurances from the Government that every possible effort has been made to find him, there has been no visible progress in securing his safe release, says a COPAA Press Release. It adds:
The Council of Pakistan American Affairs, COPAA, urges the newly elected Government of Pakistan to immediately take all necessary steps to secure the safe return of Ambassador Azizuddin.
There is no doubt that those involved in his kidnapping are not only discrediting Pakistan but also using his abduction as a bargaining tool to further their ideological campaign. The new Government of Pakistan must make the recovery of the ambassador a top priority and continue to use all the resources at its disposal until the Ambassador is released safely.
On behalf of the Pakistani-American community, COPAA appeals to every Pakistani, the Pakistani media, and the local leaders of the Khyber Agency to do everything possible to find Ambassador Azizuddin and unite him with his family.
