Brigadier Khawaja Tariq Mahmood Honored
Brigadier Khawaja Tariq Mahmood, a member of the Urdu Cultural Society, Los Angeles, has been awarded the testimonial of International Professional of the Year 2007 by International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England for his "outstanding contribution to translating Urdu poetry into rhymed English".
Khawaja Tariq Mahmood has translated the poetry of Ghalib, Iqbal, Faiz, Sahir Ludhianvi, Bahadur Shah Zafar, Josh Maleehabadi, Shakeel Badayuni, Qateel Shifai, Abdul Rehman Wogle Saaz, and women poetesses of the subcontinent including Amrita Preetan, Parveen Shakir. His books have been published by Star Publishers of New Delhi and Ferozsons of Lahore.
Khawaja Tariq Mahmood was born at Chakwal 1927. He graduated in Engineering from the Punjab University in 1947 and served in the Pakistan Army till 1979. He graduated from Staff College Quetta in 1956 and the Royal Military College of Science, Shirvanham, UK, in 1960-61.
He received his Law degree from the Punjab University in 1979 and Masters in International Relations from the University of Southern California in 1985. He is a member of the Lahore High Court Bar.
