WSI Deeply Saddened and Shocked
Board members, friends and supporters of the World Sindhi Institute are deeply shocked and saddened by the gruesome act of violence which has taken the life of Ms. Benazir Bhutto along with several of her supporters, says a statement issued by the World Sindhi Institute. It adds:
WSI Executive Director Sufi Munawar Laghari, and Secretary General Maqbool Aliani, along with other staff members express their heartfelt condolences to the family of Ms. Bhutto, the members of the Pakistan Peoples Party, and their well-wishers at this irreplaceable loss.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Laghari said, “ Bhutto was the brave daughter of Sindh, and she has paid the ultimate price for the honor and pride of her countrymen.” He further said that her “ assassination has further deepened the political wounds of Pakistan where the undemocratic forces have once again silenced the voices of reason and dissent.”
Mr. Aliani said that people of Sindh and Balochistan “have paid a heavy price for their struggle for just and fair Pakistan, where their leaders have been assassinated one after another, leaving the scars of oppression and apathy.” Mr. Aliani added that "Ms. Bhutto was the only solution for a stable, democratic and secular Pakistan and her assassination will create a huge vacuum". He went on to say that "as opposed to Musharraf and Pakistan Army, Ms. Bhutto was the only force to take on militant Islam and Taliban".
The members of the board in a joint statement condemned ‘this cowardly act of violence against the democratic and secular forces of the country and demanded an independent inquiry to expose all those who are responsible for this hideous crime.’
