Chicago, IL:  Mr. Tariq Malhance, Vice President of Friends of Humanity (FOH), and Ehtesham Arshad, Secretary, FOH, have appealed to His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan to look into the humanitarian issue of stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh. They were talking to him at a luncheon meeting  hosted in his honor by Illinois Governor Rod Blogavich in Chicago.
His Highness was on official visit to Chicago on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of his Imamat of  the Ismailee community.
Prince Karim Aga Khan enquired about the number of stranded Pakistanis and their  living conditions. He expressed his concern for their plight.
The FOH directors reminded Prince Karim Aga Khan that his uncle Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan was a big supporter and well wisher of the stranded Pakistanis. Prince Sadruddin was the High Commissioner for UNHCR.
A memorandum presented by the FOH requested His Highness to consider taking up the matter at the highest level and exercising his influence for the worthy cause. “Today in this state of hopelessness our hope as well as the hope of these unfortunate stranded Pakistanis are in your hands”, the memorandum read. It inter alia stated: “As you are doing a lot for the poor and the needy people of the world especially of Africa, India, and Pakistan, we are confident that your honor will look into the matter very sympathetically purely on humanitarian ground”. His Highness is expected to visit Pakistan and Bangladesh in near future.
Mr. Younus Suleman, Deputy Director of US Congressman Bobby Rush, was also present in the meeting.
