Nasreen Adaya Haroon Selected for American Artist Abroad Program
Nasreen Adaya Haroon, a Pakistani-American artist, has been selected for the prestigious American Artist Abroad program. The program is part of the US Department of State’s Art in Embassies Program.
As an American Artist Abroad, Nasreen will be fostering cross cultural dialogue. She will be traveling to Algeria to conduct cultural programming from November 4th to 13th related to the art exhibition currently on view at the US ambassador’s residence in Algiers, which includes four of her paintings. To reach a broad section of society, activities will take place both at the ambassador’s residence and at public venues throughout Algiers. She will be accompanied by her daughter Sana Haroon.
Among her activities will be working with an NGO to teach art to children who are victims of terror, painting a mural at a school, master class at Ecole Superieure des Beaux Arts, presentations at Musee d’Art Moderne et Contemporain (MAMA) and Musee des Beaux Arts as well as a television interview on Bonjour Algerie, a TV show.
Nasreen Adaya Haroon’s paintings have been displayed in many American ambassadors’ residences around the world, including Islamabad, Pakistan; Dakar, Senegal; Abu Dhabi, UAE; Algiers, Algeria, and Nigeria. She was appointed cultural envoy to the UAE last year, when the US embassy in Abu Dhabi sponsored three of her art exhibitions one each in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, where she also taught nine master classes, three in each Emirate, that were received very enthusiastically.
