APPNA’s Community Center Inaugurated
Westmont, IL: In a ceremony at APPNA Central Office, President Dr. Mahmood Alam inaugurated the first community health center to be operated under the auspices of the Association. APPNA Health Center is expected to serve the medically vulnerable population of APPNA’s hometown Westmont and its neighboring communities.
The APPNA President was greeted upon his arrival by a number of Illinois chapter members, including volunteers and staff. “This center best commemorates the year 2008 as APPNA’s year of “Empowering Community,” said President Alam in his address. “While APPNA continues struggling on policy front to seek better health care for millions of uninsured Americans, I am pleased to see it undertaking grassroots initiatives to provide relief.
“Community health centers across the nation by various APPNA chapters will provide a unique opportunity to our membership to payback to the society,“ Dr. Alam added.
APPNA Office Management Committee Chair, Dr. Imtiaz Arain informed the audience that APPNA Health Center in the initial phase will provide health awareness education and health screening, multi-lingual patient counseling, treatment of common ailments and referral services for specialized care. “Our aim is to grow into a full-time community clinic where high-quality primary care is offered with dignity, respect and compassion,” said Dr. Arain.
Pakistan Physician Society and APPNA Illinois chapter President Dr. Maleeha Ahsan expressed gratitude to APPNA Central for housing the center in its premises. She assured full support of volunteer physicians of Illinois chapter both in providing service and raising funds.
The ceremony concluded with a note of thanks by APPNA Trustees Dr. Iltifat Alavi and Dr. Pervez Rasul.
