Inauguration of Focus, an organization for the empowerment of youth

The inauguration ceremony of “The Focus Network” was held at Monty’s Banquet. Hussain Haqqani, ambassador of Pakistan to the US, was the keynote speaker. The mission of Focus is to bring communities together and provide guidance to the young generation. Mr. Haqqani asked the Pakistani-American community to be active citizens of the United States and participate in the social, cultural and political activities with the same enthusiasm that they demonstrate for Pakistan. He also talked about the present situation in Pakistan. Giving a brief overview of the strategic geo-political importance of Pakistan he said that the US government has to help the country in its present political and economic crisis. He praised Focus for its mission of empowering and educating the Pakistani youth.

Dr. Zafar Bokhari introduced the social, cultural and architectural heritage of Pakistan. Dr. Gloria Sawyer of Chicago State University paid tribute to the Pakistani-American community for their contribution in the American society. She also stressed the importance of the involvement of Pakistani Americans in mainstream activities. Mr. Khairul Bashar, president of Focus, thanked the community and the dignitaries for showing their support to the new organization. Famous Pakistani American singer Professor Gul Afshan entertained the audience with her melodious geets and ghazals.
