APPNA-AZ Chapter Organizes Semi-Annual Meeting

The APPNA-AZ chapter held its semi-annual meeting on Saturday, May 9 at the Windmill Suites in Tucson , Arizona.
The morning session began at 8:30 am with the Continuing Medical Education meeting. The guests registered themselves and had breakfast.
Dr. Nusrum Iqbal, MD, FACP, who is also the Chair of the CME meeting, moderated the session. A welcome note was presented by Azam Taqi, MD, President of APPNA-AZ chapter.
As part of the continuing medical education, several topics of interest were presented. Dr. Haroon Haque enlightened the participants on the subject of Dementia.
Dr. Nusrum Iqbal highlighted Management Strategies for Type 2 Diabetes - from guidelines to clinical practice.
Dr. Ubair Ahmed gave presentation on the Impact and Options of COPD, which happens to be the fourth leading cause of death in the United States .
Lastly, Dr. Tausif Zar enlightened the audience with his presentation on Aquaporin and Aquaretic.
Mr. Arif Kazmi was the guest speaker. He is planning to run for the Municipal Corporation Board of Central Arizona Project. In his short speech he gave details about his candidacy and what role he would play as a governing body.
“Arif Kazmi a well established member of our community who has worked tirelessly to improve the community relations. He has requested our support and we should contribute to his campaign with our time and money,” Dr. Yousuf Khan commented.
The meeting closed around 1.30 pm.
The APPNA-AZ chapter business meeting was held at 5.30 pm. The participants included Dr. N. Kazi, .Dr. A. Khwaja, Dr. T. Azam, Dr. A. Jan and some of the Tucson host committee members. Discussions included free clinic in Phoenix and financial reporting.
The evening program started around 6:30 pm.
Dr. Haroon welcomed the guests and requested Dr. Taqi Azam to be the master of ceremony. Dr. Azam, who is also the president of APPNA-Az chapter, thanked the Tucson community and physicians who came from Phoenix and Sierra Vista to attend the event. He gave a brief historical overview of APPNA for the benefit of distinguished guests and representatives from elected officials in Tucson. He highlighted the role that APPNA played as a humanitarian organization during the devastating earthquake in Pakistan .
Dr. Taqi also thanked the friends from the Indian, Bangladeshi and Arab communities.
Dr. Taqi acknowledged the presence of honorable guests from various walks of life. Among the guests were Mrs. Mohur Sidhwa, Vice Chair Arizona Democratic Party. She is a Pakistani American and the daughter of famous writer Bapsi Sidhwa, author of many award-winning books.
While the dinner was being served, Dr. Taqi Azam entertained the audience with a song from old times.
After dinner, Mansoor Johar from Phoenix entertained the crowd with his musical talent. Dr. Mujeeb -Uddin Shad, a guest artist from Dallas , also sang ghazals and geets. Ashitos Thakral played the tabla.
