An impressive flag-hoisting ceremony took place at the Beverly Hills residence of Consul General Syed Ibne Abbas on August 14, 2009.

The ceremony was held at 10.30 am on a working day yet members of the Pakistan-American community turned up in large numbers at the residence of the Consul General to furnish proof of their love for Pakistan.

Mr Mohammadmian Soomro, former Chairman of the Senate, also happened to be in Los Angeles on the day and to the surprise and delight of the community attended the ceremony and freely mixed with the gathering.

Consul General Syed Ibne Abbas read out the messages of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan and impressed upon the gathering the importance of the day. His profuse love for Pakistan was all too obvious and this could also be said for those who attended the flag-hoisting ceremony. He congratulated the Pakistani-Americans on the 62nd Independence Day of Pakistan.

Arshad Ali and his wife Shazia, two prominent members of the community who have made their mark and earned recognition of the community for their singing talent, sang a number of popular national songs.

Their fine performance was duly applauded.
