Munira Syeda Receives Award for Outstanding Contributions to Community

Los Angeles , CA : The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) March 26 congratulated its Communications Manager Munira Syeda for receiving an award from State Senator Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana) as one of the women making a difference during his 2nd Annual "2010 Women Making a Difference" Tea Reception.
Syeda received the award, along with 100 women, for making a significant impact in the community in Central Orange County. The reception, held at Rancho Santiago Community College District last week, was in honor of Women's History Month.
"We congratulate Munira on this well-deserved recognition," said CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush. "As a community activist, Munira has dedicated much of her time and energy in advancing the social justice agenda and promoting mutual understanding and cooperation among all faith communities in Orange County."
Syeda joined CAIR-LA in May 2006, and since then, has worked on key media campaigns to help shape the public's opinion of Islam and American Muslims, strengthen partnerships between CAIR-LA and key stakeholders in the Southern California media industry, and worked with various coalition groups on furthering civil rights and social justice causes.
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
