Halal Soup Kitchen and a Social Services Center in HAITI
According to a communication received from Zamir Hassan of Muslims Against Hunger Project (PO Box 12, Pluckemin, NJ 07978, phone: 908-364-4441) Muslims Against Hunger has put together a project to set up a permanent Halal Soup Kitchen and a Social Services Center including a Health Clinic; south of Port Au Prince in localities of Morne-a-Bruler, Leogane, and Jacmel by late summer 2010. The message says:
We are in contact with local community from Haiti to partner with and run this program on permanent basis. People in Haiti need help for the long haul. The community we are going to partner with is completely destroyed and 6 nuns perished in the rubble of the Church. One of the nuns who survived is the aunt of our Haiti project coordinator in New York with extensive contacts in Haiti
Muslims Against Hunger wants to establish sustainable program and not a one-time feel good effort.
We need to mobilize our community to support Muslims Against Hunger Haiti project and get involved on permanent basis.
Our community does not have infrastructure to deal with this kind of emergencies. At Muslims Against Hunger we are trying to build the infrastructure and capacity to act when it is needed. Please join hands to make it happen.
