Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations visited Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles on July 14th 2010. He was welcomed by the Acting Consul General, Dr. Muhammad Khalid Ejaz and other members of the Consulate.
Dr Muhammad Khalid Ejaz briefed Ambassador about the working of the Consulate. He stated that the Consulate was working hard to increase bilateral trade between the USA and Pakistan. To create an understanding about Pakistan, the Consulate had started a renewed effort to engage academia, media personnel, opinion leaders and elected representatives in its consular jurisdiction of fourteen Western states. He emphasized that despite constraints the Consulate was providing excellent consular services to US citizens and Pakistani Diaspora. To realize the true potential of the Pakistani community, the Consulate General had crafted a meaningful and purpose oriented program of action. The meeting was also attended by a group of prominent Pakistanis.
Ambassador Haroon appreciated the efforts of the Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles in promoting Pakistan’s interest in USA. The Ambassador emphasized that Pakistan could attract foreign investors by creating an enabling environment as there were tremendous opportunities of business in Pakistan. He stated that the government was taking measures to improve governance in Pakistan. He urged the Pakistani-American community to carefully follow the dynamics of economics and politics to play a meaningful role. He also highlighted Pakistan’s role at the United Nation, its relations with other countries and the current situation in Afghanistan.
