SAN Executive Director Hamid Khan Announces Departure
South Asian Network (SAN) Executive Director Hamid Khan has announced that he will be leaving the organization in the fall of 2010 after twenty years of exemplary leadership. The Board and staff have expressed their strong appreciation for Khan’s exemplary vision and longtime commitment to SAN.
“Though we will sorely miss Hamid, he leaves an organization that is strong, stable, and deeply connected to the South Asian communities of Los Angeles and Orange counties,” said Sumun Pendakur, Board Secretary of the South Asian Network. “All of us at SAN know that Hamid will continue to utilize his leadership and talents in exciting ways to serve the community. And we look forward to this new chapter for the South Asian Network.”
Prakash Ghimire, SAN staff member of 5 years, agreed: “Hamid has been instrumental to SAN and the community – we are sad to see him leave but are committed to build upon his legacy.”
The South Asian Network is a community-based organization dedicated to advancing the health, empowerment and solidarity of persons of South Asian origin in Southern California.
Khan was a founding member of SAN in 1990, when a group of South Asian colleagues came together to explore the idea of creating an organization that would address a broad array of social, economic and political issues affecting persons of South Asian origin in Southern California. Under Khan’s leadership, SAN has greatly increased services to South Asian community members; initiated dynamic new programs in areas such as health, immigration, and civil rights; and significantly expanded staff and budget. Khan was profiled in the Los Angeles Times last year for his transformative leadership, passion, and commitment to advancing social justice.
The SAN Board of Directors has initiated a transition team to conduct a nationwide search for a new Executive Director.
