The Council of Pakistan American Affairs is honored to salute the nation on the occasion of Pakistan Day, which is beyond doubt a historic milestone in our nation’s quest for independence, says a COPAA press release. It adds:
For it was on this day that the Muslims of South Asia determined to carve out an independent homeland for themselves; a territory where they could live in harmony in accordance with the tenets of Islam, free from repression and suppression.
It was the unanimous will of the Muslims of South Asia under the vibrant leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah that resulted in the creation of Pakistan.
From that historic day of March 23, 1940, our homeland has come a long way. Having attained independence on Aug. 14, 1947 against seemingly insurmountable odds, our nation has been confronted with many challenges both external and internal in the post-independence period.
