COPAA Strongly Condemns Minorities Minister’s Murder
COPAA strongly condemns the murder of the Catholic Pakistani minister, Shahbaz Bhatti, in broad daylight on Wednesday, March 2nd in Islamabad. This is the second high profile murder of the beleaguered opponents of the unjust Blasphemy Law, says a COPAA press release. It adds:
President Obama has condemned the murder and stated that he's saddened by the
"horrific" murder.
COPAA had met with a Catholic clergyman from Pakistan who had apprised us of the growing intolerance for the Christians. COPAA had submitted its concerns about the plight of the Christians in Pakistan to the White House and various other government agencies. Many Christians have been contacting COPAA urging us to share their stories. The issue is grave and should concern all Pakistanis. We expect equal rights and a sense of security from our country, America, in the same way as the Christian Pakistanis do of their government. Thus, we urge President Zardari's government to revisit the Blasphemy Law and provide justice to the family of Shahbaz Bhatti.
