APPNA Community Health Clinic Opens in St. Louis
St. Louis, MO: The official opening and dedication of the APPNA Community Health Clinic St. Louis took place on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Masjid Bilal in St. Louis. The Clinic is located on the N. Vandeventer Avenue corner of the St. Louis University campus.
The grand opening ceremony was attended by representatives of St. Louis Mayor Francis G. Slay, Missouri Governor Jay W. Nixon, Missouri State Representative Jamilah Nasheed, among other local politicians and dignitaries.
The APPNA Community Health Clinic St. Louis grand opening was hosted by Dr. Manzoor Tariq, President of the national Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent in North America (APPNA), and local physicians who serve as Board Members or volunteer staff at the Health Clinic. Mohammed Ibrahim, Chairman of the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis, which has provided the space for the clinic facility participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony. Over 75 people were present on the occasion.
The APPNA Community Health Clinic St. Louis is open to all residents of the St. Louis area, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or sex. The clinic will operate on Sundays. Volunteer doctors with specialties in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, and Dentistry will staff the clinic. The Grand Opening will offer an opportunity for community physicians, including those from St. Louis University and Washington University, to sign up as volunteer physicians.
Dr. Manzoor Tariq; Central President of Pakistani Physicians, Dr. Shazia Malik and Dr. M. Haseeb spoke on the occasion and claimed that we stand in solidarity with our fellow Americans in supporting the American ideals of freedom and democracy. “We are grateful for the opportunities our great nation has provided us, and have joined together with our St. Louis citizens to extend our services to the community through a free health clinic. We have respectfully coordinated our grand opening on 9/11, when we commemorate the extraordinary service of our fellow Americans during tragic circumstances by offering our own services to those in need in our local community.”
Dr. Naseem Shekhani spoke about the running of the clinic and referral system.
Dr. Abid Bhaiji will be in-charge of Dental Clinic, Dr. Mujtaba Qazi will be in-charge of Ophthalmology and Dr. Shahid Badar will be head of Clinical Medicine and Primary Care.
