Rights of Minorities in Muslim Countries
Los Angeles, CA: On Sunday, April 15, the Muslim Public Affairs Council is hosting a special symposium on “Minority Rights in Muslim Countries” at the Islamic Center of Southern California to discuss the meaning of democracy and religious freedom in the aftermath of the Arab Spring. The event, which will be webcast live, will feature a dynamic panel of religious leaders and human rights experts who will discuss the rights of religious minorities and the struggle for democracy in Egypt, Bahrain, Syria and other impacted countries. Joining the conversation will be:
Imam Sayed Moustafa Al-Qazwini, Islamic Educational Center of Orange County; Dr. Maher Hathout, MPAC Senior Adviser; Eliz Sanasarian, University of Southern California Professor of Political Science and author of “Religious Minorities in Iran”; Tad Stahnke, Human Rights First and former Deputy Executive Director for Policy at the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.
The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Laila Al-Marayati, Chairperson of Kinder USA and a former presidential appointee to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom.
