US Consul General Visits San Gabriel Valley Islamic Center
Mr. William Martin, US Consul General in Karachi, toured the construction site of a $5.3 million complex that will be the new home of the Islamic Center of San Gabriel Valley - Masjid Quaba, along with leaders of the Pakistani-American Muslim community.
"Financed entirely by private contributions from members of the American Muslim community, the building, when completed, will include a State of California-funded charter school, mental health counseling, classes to teach Qur’an in English and Spanish, Islamic research libraries, tax assistance, a mortuary, elderly day care, and dental services, in addition to comprehensive religious services, making it one of the most comprehensive Islamic centers in the US," said a press release issued on Friday.
Mr. Martin was joined on the tour by Dr Syed Arif Ali Rizvi, President of the Islamic Center of San Gabriel Valley; Adnan Khan, President of the Council of Pakistani-American Affairs; Ismail KeeKeebhai, Executive Vice President COPAA; Shafquat Chaudry, President of Muslim-American television station "Bridges TV;" Michael Wolfe, a renowned producer of films and documentaries about Islam in America; Ashraf Jakvani, Islamic Center of San Gabriel; and Kevin Murakami, Public Affairs Officer with the US Consulate General Karachi.
