Helping Hand for Relief and Development Organizes Floods Emergency Response Seminar
Islamabad: Helping Hand For Relief & Development (HHRD), one of the top four-star charities, organized a two-day Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Floods Emergency Response (FER) Training Seminar in Islamabad, Pakistan in July 2012.
The seminar was held at the Envoy Continental Hotel, Blue Area, on July 2 and the training given to Helping Hand’s Pakistan staff sought to effectively prepare them to respond to future disasters in their respective areas. The objective was to enhance the participants’ knowledge and skills in various aspects of disaster management, including the basic terminologies and concepts of disaster; facilitate to develop the concept of Disaster Management Cycle; vulnerability and capacity assessment; and DRR Mainstreaming and Advocacy.
HHRD has formed an Emergency Preparedness and Response Team (EPRT) to develop and implement the strategic and response plan for expected monsoon rain/flood emergency in mid-July to mid-September 2012. The Head of Team will be Saleem Mansoori; Secretary: Abdul Jabbar Khan; and Members: Dr. Shafiq, Dr. Rizwan, Imran Khan, Malik Akram Awan, Khalid Naeem, and A. M. Amjid
Mr. Ahmed Kamal, Director General of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Pakistan, was the keynote speaker. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Director Khalid Malik, Country Director of HHRD Pakistan Fazalur Rehman, Director of Programs HHRD Pakistan Saleem Mansoori, several experts and field workers of Disaster Management attended the Seminar.
Several experts in the field of DRR and FER trained the prospective emergency relief workers in the fields of Healthcare, Mother-and-Child Health, Food Distribution, Shelter Provision, Water And Hygiene Sanitation (WASH), and so on.
According to the latest reports, Monsoon Rains this year are expected to be intense, which can cause floods in 29 districts HHRD has mechanisms set up in 17 of these 29 districts, and is ready to respond in a systematic and integrated manner, with the Blessings of God
