PAGB Elections
The Pakistan Association of Greater Boston (PAGB) held its general body meeting on May 6 to elect members of the PAGB Board of Directors to serve for two years 2012-2014. The following were declared elected:
President: Shazia Ahmed Khan
She was born in Karachi and moved to Massachusetts in 1999. She has previously served on the PAGB Board as Director of Social Affairs and has helped organize many successful events. She is a strong believer in building bridges through art and culture and has been involved in humanitarian and community services. Shazia is a mother of 9-year-old Shazain and 8-year-old Shanzay.
Vice President: Ibrahim Khalid
He was born in Karachi and migrated to the US over 20 years ago. Ibrahim has volunteered for PAGB and along with his two children, Zahaan and Sophie, has been a part of the community for the past 12 years. Ibrahim currently works as a partner for a global consulting firm.
General Secretary: Shua Islam
She hails from Karachi and has been living in the Boston area since 2000. Shua holds a Ph.D. in Economics and is a professor and a consultant in this field. She is also currently the Treasurer of Project GEM/Oxfam America. She is married to Azmi Jafarey and is the mother of two sons: Faaez and Aazim Jafarey.
Treasurer: Mubarak Hasan
Mubarak was born and raised in Boston. He graduated with double majors in accounting and finance from Boston University and is a CPA. Mubarak was an audit manager at Ernst & Young before taking up his current position as Assistant Controller at CSL International. He lives in Braintree with his wife, Almas Hasan, a graduate of Fatima Jinnah Medical College Lahore and they are the proud parents of Ameer and Rania Hasan.
Director of Social Affairs: Durre Kidwai
She has been residing in Boston area since 1989. She is a graduate of Brown University majoring in International Relations/Middle Eastern Studies focusing on Global Security. Her husband Zia Kidwai is a cardiologist. They have two sons, Ammar Kidwai who is in college and Ahmer Kidwai who is in high school.
Director of Membership and Youth Affairs: Amina Ali
Amina Ali is originally from Toronto and moved to Boston 9 years ago when she married Muazzam Ali. She is a recent graduate in Business Administration and will be joining the work force soon. She is the proud mother of a 3-year-old son Noah, who keeps her quite busy. Her other interests are interior decoration and Arabic calligraphy.
Director of Public Relations: Meryum Khan
Meryum Khan was born and raised in the Greater Boston area and, along with her parents, has been an active member of the Pakistani community. She graduated from Syracuse University in 2008 and Suffolk University Law School in 2011. She works at the Office of Labor Relations at the Boston Police Department.
