Joyous Eid-ul-Adha Celebrations in Sacramento
By Ras H. Siddiqui
Eid-ul Adha was celebrated with a great deal of enthusiasm in Sacramento, California as many area mosques joined hands to celebrate the occasion on Friday, October 26 th at the Jackson Sports Academy’s expansive facilities. Arrangements were made well in advance to cater to the largest prayer gathering in this region as the congregation led by Imam Azeez commemorated the feast of sacrifice with a fine display of Muslim unity transcending divisions of ethnicity, race and national origin.
Focusing on the topic of “LABBAIK ALLAHUMMA LABBAIK”Imam Azeez of the SALAM Mosque gave an inspiring Khutba (sermon) which projected the values of devotion, brotherhood, piety and generosity, all elements which are part and parcel of the spirit of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
Due to the large number of people attending this Eid prayer, parking turned out to be quite a problem. Farrukh Saeed of the SALAM Board of Trustees suggested that maybe next year the Muslim community of the greater Sacramento area could consider renting a portion of the Cal Expo facilities where everyone would find plenty of parking and room to pray. The parking part at Cal Expo would have to be paid because they charge a fee for each vehicle, but it should not deter families, especially if an indoor Eid day festival is planned (which includes both children’s activities and food).
The Eid festivities in the area started with a Chand Raat at SHAZ Restaurant and ended with a fundraiser at the same venue on Sunday for Masjid Ibrahim Islamic Center. Some of the attendance to these activities was impacted by the baseball World Series which the San Francisco Giants won convincingly against the Detroit Tigers. “Eid Mubarak” from Sacramento to all Pakistan Link readers.
