'Let's Be Honest' Forum in LA on Sunday
Los Angeles, CA: Join the Muslim Public Affairs Council and the Islamic Center of San Gabriel Valley (ICSGV) on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. for an honest discussion on hot button issues facing our community. ‘Let's Be Honest: Getting Beyond the Taboos of Our Community’ is an opportunity to ask pressing questions in an effort to move our communities toward a more open space for discussion.
This forum allows for a conversation on taboo subjects such as mental health, gender relations, women in leadership and family dynamics. Moderated by Dr. Laila Al-Marayati, the Chairperson of Kinder USA and spokesperson for the Muslim Women's League, the conversation will feature Dr. Sherman Jackson, professor of Islamic Thought and Culture at the University of Southern California; Munira Ezzeldine, a marriage and family counselor; Sheikh Said Seddouk, imam and religious director of ICSGV; and Edina Lekovic, MPAC’s Director of Policy and Programming.
This summer, MPAC held a “Let’s Be Honest” forum at the ADAMS Center in Falls Church, VA, which was attended by a packed house of more than 600 community members, as well as being webcast live. MPAC is committed to hosting regular “Let’s Be Honest” community forums around the country in order to promote and facilitate open dialogue about the complex issues facing American Muslims in their daily lives.
