AMWEC Holds Thanksgiving Food Drive for OC Charity
American Muslim Women’s Empowerment Council (AMWEC) held a Thanksgiving food drive for an Orange County charity, Share Our Selves. All the monies donated went toward food items which were bought according to the guidelines given by the organization.
AMWEC board members, Tina Khan and Shaheen Awan, accompanied by Sabahat Aziz, were given a tour of the facility. Arda Arijian, Program Manager, welcomed the board and introduced them to the friendly staff. She was greatly appreciative of the gesture and hoped to build a strong partnership with the Muslim community.
Although started by a group of five housewives, the facility has now grown rapidly and has just been renovated. The extensive food pantry serves 200-250 clients each day. The annual Thanksgiving Food Drive serves about 1600 families. The center provides financial assistance to families in need and provides them help with in accessing federal and local government programs. Adjacent to the facility is a dental and health clinic that offers treatment at a minimal cost or at no cost to the needy.
AMWEC board hopes to forge its alliance with Share Our Selves by helping make a better tomorrow for those in need within our county.
