“HeART Over Hate” Night Kicks Off
MPAC’s NYC Subway Ads

New York: On October 21, over 200 people joined MPAC-NYC and the Muslim Student Association of Columbia University for “HeART Over Hate: Repelling Bigotry Through Art & Music,” an event which marked the kick-off of MPAC’s subway ad that counters Pamela Geller’s “savage” ads.

MPAC’s ad, which will start appearing in New York subway stations, calls on New Yorkers to stand together in opposing bigotry and hatred, featuring the message “The truly civilized man fights for peace. Support American values. Defeat racism & bigotry.”

With HBO Def Jam Poet Amir Sulaiman headlining, “HeART Over Hate” brought together some of the American Muslim community’s most talented artists to support peace and pluralism in the face of public acts of bigotry and extremism.

The powerful lineup included comedians Mohammed Amer, Azhar Usman and Maysoon Zayid, Broadway actress and renowned opera singer Sumayya Ali, popular Middle East television host and actress Susie Iliyan, rapper and activist Mazzi & S.O.U.L. Purpose, and photographer Ridwan Adhami.

“We have a very simple and clear message tonight,” said Deana Nassar, MPAC’s Hollywood Liaison and MC of the evening. “No. No to bigotry, no to racism, no to extremism, no to hate and no to violence.”

Donate to support MPAC’s metro ad campaigns in New York and Washington, DC, where the same ad will appear on dozens of MTA buses starting next Monday, Oct. 29.

This week in Washington, DC, MPAC’s Hollywood Bureau and the State Department will present a special screening of “Kinyarwanda,” a powerful film that also tackles the inhumane and extreme product of hate and bigotry which resulted in the Rwandan genocide of the 1990s. Co-sponsored by the US Department of State Office of International Religious Freedom and SnagFilms, the event will be hosted by the Georgetown University African Studies Program.
