Spring Meeting of APPNA Held in Los Angeles
The Association of Physicians of Pakistan Descent of North America (APPNA) is a professional, nonpolitical, equal-opportunity organization that promotes excellence in healthcare, research, education, and humanitarian endeavors. Every year, APPNA arranges meetings across North America to deliberate on its ongoing and future plans. This year, the first spring meeting of the organization was held at Beverly Wilshire, Beverly Hills, California, from March 28-30, 2014.
- Chair Asif Mahmood, MD; President Asif Rehman, MD; and members of the APPNA Executive Committee attended the meeting . It was also attended by a large number of APPNA members, their friends and families.
- During the morning session on Friday, the program focused on CME and highlighted different aspects of certain diseases and conditions. The afternoon was devoted to meetings and informative sessions within the physicians community. The evening programs accorded recognition to some volunteers and members of APPNA. Candidates for 2016 also spoke on the occasion. Performances of Qurat ul Ain Baloch and Shuja Ali Khan ended the evening.
- The Saturday program started with morning session featuring CME and the afternoon session devoted to meetings. Dinner was held in the ballroom of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. It was attended by almost 800 people including several prominent state officials, congresspersons and candidates. Several prominent businessmen and doctors were also invited to this event. Texas-based oil giant Mr Javiad Anwar spoke on the occasion. He lauded the work of Edhi Foundation and presented a check of $100,000 as his donation. Bilkis Edhi, late Dr Adbus Salam, and Azahar Farooqui were among the recipients of awards presented at the dinner. The dinner concluded with performances by Sukhbir Singh and Sahir Lodhi. The latter had especially come from Pakistan to conduct the program as its MC.
This was the first APPNA meeting held in Los Angeles after two decades under the leadership of Asif Mahmood, MD, (Chair) and Asif Rehman, MD, (President).
