While Others Leave, He Returns to Pakistan

While others are leaving Pakistan due to the precarious security situation Saghir Aslam, a 78-year-old man, has decided to return to Pakistan not for the sake of his family, personal benefits or business gains but purely for the sake of orphan children. He has brought hope and support with him for the less fortunate in Pakistan. He dared to return to Pakistan after spending 58 years in the USA to help orphan children to progress and change the image of Pakistan from a terrorist state to a peaceful Pakistan.

Saghir Aslam and his wife Bushra Aslam - well-known philanthropists for the past 48 years - had been helping people in the disaster-affected and poverty-stricken countries. Many years back they felt the need for an institution that could cater to the needs of the most vulnerable and the poorest of the poor - the orphans in Pakistan. They left their cozy home in the US where they had been living for over half a century to not only build an institution for orphans but to help Pakistan change its global image. It has been now many years that both husband and wife have been living at Saba Homes in Rawalpindi, with their 40 daughters, who according to the girls, are “orphans no more” since they have the love and presence of Mama (Bushra) and Papa (Saghir).

Saba Homes is empowering the orphans with love, affection, understanding, and education so that they become peace-loving leaders of tomorrow.

At Saba Homes there are currently 40 orphan girls who are provided with:

... Full accommodation with homelike environment

... Education up to the high school level at one of the best private schools computer lab- equipped with latest computers

... Capacity building program including workshops on character building, time management and exposure visits to other cities, organizations and universities

... Extracurricular activities such as Martial Arts, Yoga, Gardening, and Arts

... Extra support and guidance to children who have never been to school.

The concept of Saba Home is based on the maxim: “If you give a person a fish you feed him for a day - if you teach him how to fish you feed him for a life time.” The overall goal of Saba Homes project is to prepare orphan girls to become future leaders, bring a positive change in society and make Pakistan a peaceful place for children, particularly orphans.
