Washington, DC: CNN host Anthony Bourdain's video accepting the Voice of Courage and Conscience Media Award last Sunday has made national and international news, including "The Nation" magazine, Haaretz, and Daily Kos.
In the video message, which has reached over 10,000 views in the last few days and has even been tweeted, Bourdain says in part:
"It is something we do all the time -- show regular people doing everyday things, cooking and enjoying meals. It is a measure, I guess, of how twisted and shallow our depiction of the people is that these images come as a shock to so many. The world has visited many terrible things on the Palestinian people, none more shameful than robbing them of their basic humanity.”
MPAC works to bring attention and progress to the struggle of the Palestinian people for self-determination by engaging the public discourse and impacting perceptions.
The Media Awards Gala is a reflection of MPAC's Hollywood Bureau engagement, which aims to get accurate and humanizing stories told and encourage storytellers to reflect real life.
"We are proud that Anthony Bourdain's show and recognition for showing Palestinian life with openness and humanity has sparked a positive reaction that can show Americans the truth of actions taken in our name as US citizens and with our tax dollars," said MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati.
Founded in 1988, MPAC is an American institution which informs and shapes public opinion and policy by serving as a trusted resource to decision makers in government, media and policy institutions. MPAC is also committed to developing leaders with the purpose of enhancing the political and civic participation of American Muslims. |
