Grand Pakistan Independence Day Celebrations in Los Angeles
UFPID organized the Pakistan Independence Day on August 8, 2015 at the Exposition Park, Los Angeles. The UFPID - United for Pakistan Independence Day - in the words of its President Samin Faruqi, "has brought a grand mela every year in honor of our nation for the past eight years..." This year was no different.
Pakistani Americans flocked the Exposition Park in thousands and appeared visibly spirited and gleeful as they participated in the independence day celebrations. The grand event, according to the UFPID President, could not have been possible without the key members of his team: Ismail Javed Keekeebhai (Vice President), Zubair Rawda (Treasurer), Sameer Moosani (Director), Arif Mansuri (Director), Qazi Asad (Director), Adnan Khan (Director), Irfan Murtaza (Director), Waqar Khan (Director), Majeed Shaikh (Director), and Yousuf Keekeebhai (Director). Volunteers from the California PSA organizations lent valuable support to the organizers.
The independence day function in Los Angeles, according to Consul General Hamid Asghar Khan, "is perhaps the largest gathering of Pakistani diaspora not only in the United States but also in the world." "It is a matter of great pleasure for me to felicitate and collaborate with the United for Pakistan Independence Day in organizing independence of Pakistan Day and Eid Festival ... ," he went on to say.
A musical concert featuring Fakhir, Ali Zafar and Baadshah Pehalwan Khan and bhangra groups from major universities of California enlivened the proceedings. It was a memorable evening for the huge crowd.
