Pakistani Students Honored at Southern California Model UN Conference
Two Pakistani students, Raina Iqbal from Santa Monica College and Tehreem Khan from Orange Coast College, won the Best Delegate Award (1st position) and Outstanding Delegate Award (2nd position) respectively at the College of the Canyons Model UN Conference 2015 in Santa Clarita, California. The debate tournament was attended by many prominent colleges and universities of southern California.
This is the second success for both Raina and Tehreem who previously won the Outstanding Delegate Award and Honorable Delegate Award respectively at the 10th Model UN Conference hosted by University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in April. It was the biggest international conference in Southern California and attracted 600 students from nine different countries around the world.
Model UN is a public-speaking tournament where participants take on the role of diplomats and representatives of various countries in a simulation of an actual United Nations Committee and debate on international and national issues. Delegates are judged on their debating skills, communication and social skills as well as their diplomacy.
Raina Iqbal is the daughter of Mr Muhammad Iqbal Shahid who works at the Consulate General of Pakistan, while Tehreem Khan is an international student pursuing a degree in medicine at her college. We wish them all the best for their future endeavors!
