Ali Sajjad Taj Sworn-in as Mayor of Artesia

Taj, a distinguished member of the Pakistani-American community, was inducted as Mayor of the City of Artesia, California, on December 12. He joins a very select group of the Diaspora who have been elevated to this coveted position.
At an impressive swearing-in ceremony at the Artesia Community Center, the City of Artesia council members and a large number of the members of the community, testified to Sajjad’s outstanding qualities and his meritorious services to the residents of Artesia. The event was very well attended by the residents of Artesia and the members of the Pakistani American diaspora who came from various parts of California and other States to attend this event. In his acceptance speech, Mayor Ali Sajjad Taj thanked the council for electing him Mayor. He further stated that, “I am honored and humbled to represent our great city as its Mayor. I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you and our staff for the betterment of Artesia and its citizens.”
In his brief remarks at the occasion, California State Senator Tony Mendoza congratulated Ali Sajjad Taj on becoming the Mayor of the City of Artesia and stated that Mayor Taj is one of the hardest working individual that he knows and that the newly elected mayor deeply cares about the community.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn stated that election of Mayor Taj, who is the first Pakistani American, to lead the city shows what a wonderful diverse Los Angeles County we live in. She remarked that Mayor Taj is a man of his words and integrity and admired his dedication to his community.
The outgoing Mayor of Artesia, Victor Manalo, congratulated Mayor Taj and stated that he is happy to be leaving this position in the very capable hands of Mayor Taj.
Taj has served on the Artesia
City Council since December 2013.
He was elected Mayor Pro Tem on
December 14, 2015.
He has focused his energy
and time on improving day-to-day
quality of life issues for all Artesia
residents. He has supported improved
lighting, street quality and
traffic safety, while being an advocate
for bringing new businesses to
the City, both to generate revenue
for City services and to provide new
amenities for residents.
Taj possesses a Bachelor of Arts
in Economics and Political Science
and a postgraduate degree of Master
in Public Administration.
He has been in the financial
services industry for more than 15
years. During his career, he has held
several key leadership positions including
District Manager, Regional
Manager, Managing Principal,
and Vice President with multinational
firms like American Express,
Ameriprise Financial, Weddell &
Reed and TD Ameritrade.
Mayor Taj currently serves
on several of the Artesia’s internal
committees, as well as representing
the City as a member of several regional
Boards and Committees.
