Impressive Pakistan Independence Day
Consulate General of Pakistan Los Angeles organized a function at the Consul General's residence on l3/l4 August 2017 to celebrate Pakistan's 70th Independence Day. The proceedings began at 2030 hours on 13 August 2017 and continued till 0030 hours on 14 August 2017. They concluded with a cake-cutting and flag-hoisting ceremony on l4 August 2017.
The large assemblage of guests, aggregating well over 300, included prominent US politicians, high ranking State Department officials, eminent historian and author of 'Jinnah of Pakistan' Professor Stanley Wolpert, and prominent Americans of Pakistani origin.
Addressing the gathering, Consul General Abdul Jabbar Memon said that the friendship between Pakistan and the United States goes back to the time of our independence: today around a million Americans of Pakistan descent are playing an important role in strengthening relations between the two countries.
He expressed the hope that relations between the two countries would further strengthen in the days to come.
Prof Stanely Wolpert, who also spoke on the occasion, highlighted the contribution of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Founder of the Nation, in world history and the role he played in the independence of Pakistan. He talked in detail about the Quaid’s vision for Pakistan.
Prominent California politicians - Senator Tony Mendoza, Assemblymen Richard Bloom, Matt Dababneh and Bishop Juan Carlos Mendez - congratulated the Pakistani nation on the Independence Day and said that the Pakistani American community is playing an important and constructive role in American society. They expressed the hope that friendly relations between the two countries would further strengthen in the days ahead.
On the occasion, a competition of national songs of Pakistan was also held in which participants sang Pakistani songs. The event concluded with a flag-hoisting ceremony after midnight. Mr Abdul Jabbar Memon, Consul General, hoisted the national flag.
