AMWEC Team Calls on Congresswoman Mimi Walters
American Muslim Women’s Empowerment Council (AMWEC) called on Congresswoman Mimi Walters office.
AMWEC executive board members, Anila Ali, Sabahat Aziz, Aisha Bajwa, and honorary members, Rani Murtaza and Dinah Frieden, called on the Congresswoman to introduce their organization and acquaint her of their goals and mission.
“AMWEC aims to empower Muslim women and engage them in civic duty. AMWEC aims to create a Muslim community with women as strong role models,” Ali explained. Most importantly, AMWEC mentors and provides internships for Muslim women,” added Ali. AMWEC’s team explained how they strive to dispel misconceptions about Muslims and Islam and at the same time build bridges of interfaith friendships so that they can be the first line of defense against hate and bigotry. The group shared their concern at the increase in hate crimes against Muslims and Jews. Dinah Frieden, a Jewish member of AMWEC, explained why she is a working with Muslims: “I am a Jewish girl from LA, and of course, I know about hate and bigotry, my family were victims of the Holocaust and I want to step up and help the Muslims.”
Congresswoman’s office assured AMWEC of their support and welcomed ideas.
