Community Iftar Organized by Muttahida Qaumi Movement Los Angeles Draws Large Crowd
Buena Park, CA: A community iftar was organized by MQM workers of Greater Los Angeles area at the Ehler's Community Center in Buena Park, CA, on June 11. The event was attended by hundreds of community members from the Greater Los Angeles area.
Ex-Federal Minister and MQM Senator Mr Babar Khan Ghauri and Mr Adnan Naqvi, Joint In-charge of MQM North America Central Organizing Committee, were amongst the distinguished guests present on the occasion.
Talking to the media, Mr Ghauri lamented that Mohajirs had been facing injustices since the creation of Pakistan. Instead of addressing their grievances and attending to their legitimate demands, the "establishment has pushed us against the wall." He said that July is a critical month for the future of the present government as well as the people of Pakistan. He urged the establishment and the judiciary to be seized of the plight of Mohajirs who have faced oppression for more than two decades.
Mr Ghauri claimed that though urban Sindh plays an important role in boosting the economy of the country, people of Karachi, Hyderabad and other areas of the province continue to be neglected. He said Mohajirs deserve to be treated at par with other ethnic groups and have the right to have their own province.
He said people who gave supreme sacrifices in the creation of the country are feeling completely isolated; it's the responsibility of incumbent officials of establishment to address their needs and grievances instead of shunning them from the political and democratic system.
Mr Adnan Naqvi thanked all the guests who attended the event to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organization founded by Mr Altaf Hussain at the University of Karachi in 1978. He said Altaf Hussain has given a hope to the 98% middle class people of the country by sending them to the national and provincial assemblies through the political process. Unfortunately, his message was obstructed from reaching the entire middle class segment of Pakistan society. There are certain elements who are afraid of a wholesome change and have perpetrated a state-sponsored operation against him and his followers to stop his message from reaching the masses. This has been going on since 1992. But their efforts to tarnish the image and reputation of MQM and its leader will not deter us from our struggle and strivings for a better future.
