COPAA Holds Annual Gala and Awards Event 2017
The Council of Pakistan American Affairs (COPAA) held its Annual Gala and Awards Event 2017 in Los Angeles recently.
The guests included Consul General Abdul Jabbar Memon, Senator Tony Mendoza, California State Controller John Chiang, Mayor Peggy Huang of the City of Yorba Linda, Mayor Ali Sajjad Taj of the City of Artesia, Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Michael Downing, and Special agent FBI Stephen Woolery.
Senator Tony Mendoza presented COPAA with a resolution which appreciated the contributions of the Council. Specifically, it supported COPAA's youth mentorship program and the positive impact expected. It also appreciated the business mentorship program launched by COPAA.
Mayor Peggy Huang presented a certificate of recognition to COPAA. It appreciated the work of the Council. She also assured her support for the Pakistani American community.
This year's recipient of the COPAA Courage, Integrity and Leadership Award is Congresswoman Judy Chu. COPAA also recognized Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Michael Downing this yearand awarded him the COPAA Excellence in Public Service Award. Mayor Ali Sajjad Taj received the COPAA Special Recognition Award.
In his welcome address, COPAA PresidentNasir Javed said, “I want to say, we are proud immigrants who love America and are also proud of our rich cultural and religious heritage.
“Americans of Pakistani origin want to be the Americans whose achievements and accomplishments make all Americans proud and our contributions and hard work takes America to greater success.”
