APPNA and Its Indian and Bangladeshi Counterparts Form a Historic Alliance
AnAPPNA announcement states: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by APPNA, AAPI and BMANA during an APPNA Strategy meeting in Miami on January 27th, 2018.
This coalition of South Asian Physicians of North America (SAPNA), representing 15% of the total physician workforce in the USA, was formed to accomplish the following objectives:
1. Parties to explore potential opportunities for collaboration with no financial obligation to help promote health and wellness amongst South Asians in North America and the South Asian Region.
2. Parties agree to form a South Asian Physician Coalition in North America (SAPNA) with a six-member council comprising the President and President-Elect of the concerned parties.
3. Parties agree to extend courtesy invitations to respective team members to their annual conventions.
4. Parties agree to explore and support Congressman Jaspal's bill in Congress designed to create awareness, education and research on higher incidence of cardiovascular diseases in the South Asian population in North America.
5. Parties to support and promote participation of respective members in conferences, seminars and other social programs.
6. Parties to work jointly with Federal and State government(s) to address disparities in healthcare amongst minorities, Visa waiver programs, Residency slots for FMG's and other relevant issues as jointly agreed upon.
With this Memorandum of Understanding, APPNA, AAPI and BMANA commit to work together in bringing the best possible solutions and opportunities impacting large number of human lives.
In an earlier message, Dr Iqbal Zafar Hamid, APPNA President 2018, said: “I am excited to inform you that President and President-elect of AAPI (American Association of Physicians of Indian origin) as well as President of BMANA (Bangladeshi Medical Association of North America) will be joining us during our Strategy meeting in Miami.
“Their visit will prove to be a landmark in the history of APPNA, AAPI and BMANA. The purpose of this visit is to establish a coalition of South Asian Physicians in North America (SAPNA), which will collaborate on strategic opportunities to address health and wellness of South Asians in North America and the South Asian Region...”
