CAIR-LA Condemns Attack on 91-Year-Old Man
Anaheim, CA:The Greater Los Angeles Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) has condemned an apparently bias-motivated attack on a 91-year-old Mexican man in Willowbrook, a city in Los Angeles County.
Rodolfo Rodriguez, who had traveled from Michoacán, Mexico to Willowbrook to visit his grandson, was going for a walk on July 4 when he was assaulted by a group of people.
Rodriguez passed by a woman and a small child and allegedly, the woman began beating him with a concrete brick. She reportedly called upon a group of men to assist her in assaulting Rodriguez.
A passerby witnessed the beating and reported hearing the woman telling Rodriguez to “go back to your country. Go back to Mexico.”
Rodriguez suffered a broken jaw, broken cheekbones, two broken ribs, and bruises on his face, back and abdomen.
Police are looking for a female suspect and three to four male suspects.
“We condemn this apparently bias-motivated attack and urge law enforcement authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice,” said CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush. “Californians of all backgrounds must stand together in the face of growing hatred and division in our state and nation.”
Ayloush urged community members to report any bias incidents to police and to CAIR-LA's Civil Rights Department at 714-776-1177 or by filing a report at: https://bit.ly/2L9Ezsw
