Congressman Brad ShermanMakes History by Serving Iftar

Northridge, CA: Congressman Brad Sherman made history this Ramadan by serving iftar in his District’s mosque. He served food to over 100 American Muslim constituents at The Islamic Center of Northridge on May 29.
Much to the community’s surprise and delight they sawtheir gracious Congressman serving iftarafter a long day of fasting. He also honored the community by giving them a flag that flew over the White House. It was a historic present.
The Congressman was received by MrShahab Din,
president of ICN.
It was also historic to have the presence of John Chiang, a California State Treasurer and candidate for governor, and Jesse Gabriel, candidate for state assembly, on the occasion.
The three served food to the community to break their fast.
Mahomed Khan, prominent community activist, presented Congressman Sherman with a special autographedphoto of the first date of all-time great boxer, the late Mohammad Ali, with Khalilah Camacho Ali who later became Ali’s wife. It was a token of appreciation for Congressman Sherman who has been a voice for the Rohingya victims of Myanmar.
VA Chaplin Dov Cohen was a special guest on the occasion. He was wearing the uniform of Saiful Islam, the first Muslim Chaplin for the Veterans. He mentioned his appreciation for the wreath that was placed at the Veterans Memorial earlier in the day on behalf of the Muslim American Veterans, thanks to DrSohail Masood.
Chaplin Cohen also served Muslims at their break of fast.
Aziz Molai, spokesman of ICN, moderated the program.
