Ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry Briefs House Foreign Affairs Sub-Committee at Capitol Hill

Washington: On 10 March, 2018, Congressman Ted Yoho (R-FL), Chairman, House Foreign Affairs Sub-Committee on Asia and Pacific, invited Ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry for a wide ranging discussion with Subcommittee members on Pakistan-US relations at the Capitol Hill.
Subcommittee’s Ranking Member Rep Brad Sherman and other Subcommittee members including Rep Steve Chabot and Rep Gerry Connolly also participated in the discussions.
Ambassador Chaudhry briefed the Subcommittee on Pakistan’s CT efforts and highlighted successes achieved by Pakistan’s security forces in defeating terrorism. Describing the ongoing campaign ‘Operation Rad-ul-Fasaad’, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue the fight against terrorism.
While exchanging views with the Congressmen on regional security, Ambassador Chaudhry emphasized the importance of border engagement with Afghanistan, return of Afghan refugees, political process for peace in Afghanistan and strong Pak-US security cooperation as fundamental steps to ensure enduring regional peace and stability. He drew the Congressmen’s attention to the atrocities committed against innocent Kashmiris in India-occupied Kashmir.
Members of House Foreign Affairs Committee and Ambassador Chaudhry also exchanged views on the need to enhance Pak-US economic engagement and strengthen people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
