Deputy District AttorneyAl Fred A. Coletta Meets the Muslims community
On Friday, October 26th, Deputy District Attorney AlFred A.Coletta, a candidate for Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Judicial Office #4, met the American Muslim community at the Islamic Center of Southern California.
It was the first time he was visiting a mosque. MrColetta comes from an immigrant family and is the first generation to get college education. He served in a courtroom for 30 years and is now a candidate for the office of judge. He could just work for a law firm and make money but he decided to serve the community by being a judge. Below, excerpts from his address at the mosque:
It was a pleasure to speak and visit with the Islamic Center congregation this Friday afternoon. I am very grateful to meet the leadership and visit the community.
Both of my parents are immigrants from Italy. They came to America after the War with only a 5th grade education. My father's parents were farmers and my mother's side of the family were merchants.
They became American citizens within 5 years and impressed upon my sister and I the importance of education, hard work, and being honest with everyone. My sister and I are the first to complete grade school, high school and we both worked our way through college and graduate school. We were poor but that did not matter. My parents were honorable people, just like the many people I met today at the Islamic Center.
As I said today, it is about doing right by people and treating people correctly; it’s never about money! I firmly believe for every opportunity presented to us in this short life, we will each have to give an account as to what we did or what we failed to do.
It is important that the communities know that in order to be a judge in the Los Angeles Superior Court, it is fundamental and imperative that the jurist be an accomplished trial lawyer before overseeing civil and criminal trials. I am an accomplished trial lawyer for over 31 years. My opponent has never completed one jury trial in her life. In order to do justice and effect people in a good way, you must be an accomplished trial lawyer or else injustice is what occurs. There is absolutely no substitution for doing the jury trial work. I am the only candidate for judicial office # 4 that is endorsed by law enforcement, the Los Angeles Times concluding, "MrColetta is highly regarded by judges and opposing counsel and we think he will be an excellent judge and fair". Metropolitan News Enterprise (the leading legal source in Los Angeles), stated, "He is well suited for the position."
I respectfully ask for your vote in the coming General Election on November 6th, as a vote for Alfred Coletta for Los Angeles Superior Court Judge is a vote for justice, diligence, integrity, and fairness.
I have served the citizens of Los Angeles County as Deputy District Attorney for over 30 years. In that time, I have prosecuted gang crimes, crimes against children, sex crimes, and domestic violence. I have prosecuted 43 murders of over 120 jury trials, including special circumstances murderers for multiple murders.
I am endorsed by the Los Angeles Times rated “well suited” for the position of judge, and the only candidate that is an accomplished trial lawyer. It would be an honor and a privilege to continue to administer justice for the citizens of this County as a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge. My background and unique experiences as a prosecutor give me a special perspective which will greatly serve the people of LA County.
As a friend of our community I urge the community to vote for AlFredAColetta on November 6.
