Pakistani-American to Serve as Cultural Adviser in Arifjan
San Francisco: Fremont resident Zafar Yousufzai aka Zafar Khan is proceeding to Kuwait on contract employment to work as Cultural Adviser (SME)-Linguist to support the US mission in Arifjan, the US Army base located south of Kuwait city. He will assume the responsibility of providing a cultural perspective and understanding of the region's historical, political, sociological and economic trends to select members of the senior leadership staff.
Previously, Zafar had worked at the US Central Command (MacDill AFB) Tampa, Fla. as Social Media Analyst and received an Award of Excellence by the Command Sergeant Major US Central Command from Gen. David Petraeus in Dec. 2009 at the Central Command Headquarter.
MrYousufzai was born, raised and educated in Karachi. He has a thorough understanding of Pakistani culture and traditions. Back home, he started his career as a banking officer at Standard Bank, Habib Bank and National Bank of Pakistan. He has also worked for National Iranian Copper Mining Industries Company, Rafsanjan/Kerman province as data control supervisor prior to the Islamic revolution. He immigrated to the US in 1986 and gained experience in banking, sales/marketing, and case management.
He holds a Master's degree in Political Science from the University of Karachi, and an MBA from Lincoln University San Francisco with International Business/Management major. He also received certificates in language courses - Arabic, Persian and Russian - in Pakistan. He has been a freelance writer for both Urdu and English dailies and periodicals at home and abroad. He hosted three weekly radio shows viz. Voice of Pakistan, Subrung, and Watan Ki Awaaz for Pakistani immigrants in San Francisco, and was an active member of the Pakistani cultural association in San Francisco.
He has lived in Fremont since 1996 with his wife Naeema, a lead teacher, and their two daughters: Sarwat Jahan and EqraAnam. Both graduated from the University of California Davis and are working as Project Manager and Account Manager respectively.
