Community Celebrates True Face of Americaat MPAC Convention

At the MPAC Convention on Saturday, we celebrated the true face of America:a blend of our diverse cultures, faiths, immigrant journeys, and unique experiences that make us who we are today. This is America.
We heard how Americans across the country are advancing justice. Romulo Avelica-Gonzalez and Syed Jamal, two fathers, shared how community activism helped reunite them with their families. Connie Rice, a civil rights attorney and community leader from Compton, challenged us to build unlikely alliances in our work to transform our communities and our country. Rabbi Sarah Bassin told us how acts of solidarity that followed the recent tragedy in Pittsburgh deepened her empathy for American Muslims. Asifa Quraishi-Landes reminded us to never surrender our true definition of Islam. Amy Goodman inspired us on the road ahead following the remarkable strides made toward inclusion in the midterm elections.
