SCMCO Organizes Eight Joint Masjid Basketball Tournament
360 players representing 26 mosques from all over Southern California gathered in Momentum Sports Center, Irvine on July 20th 2019 to participate in the “Eight Joint Masjid Basketball Tournament” organized by the Southern California Muslim Community Organization (SCMCO). The tournament was another mega event organized by SCMCO, which is an umbrella organization of mosques in SoCal and aims to bring the Muslim community together through social activities.
At the outset, the Rules and Regulation Committee head Samir Zayyad explained the rules of engagement to the participating players. Majid Elalami from Simi Valley extended a heartfelt welcome to the players and the audience.
SCMCO’s mission is to organize activities and mobilize the community in a manner that forges unity, stated the SCMCO organizers Mustafa Kazmi from Corona.
It was a rare delight to see over 360 players and spectators performing salah together. Prominent community leader Dr Sana Khan said, “I have no words to describe my feelings. May Allah always gather us all for the benefit of this Ummah.” He applauded the efforts of the Organizing Committee for holding the event.
The competitions began at 9:00 AM and ended at 6:00 PM with a great display of team spirit and competition in the air.
Professional referees performed their duties. The prizes were presented by SCMCO Organization Committee members Abdul Jabbar, Samir Zayyad, Saad Bholat, Ishfaq Maksud and Dawar Naqvi.
At the end, SCMCO Chairperson Dawar Naqvi thanked everyone for their contribution. He thanked ALLAH for making this program successful. He admired the hard work of his teammates. He thanked all volunteers and sponsors who made this event successful. “Without their support and encouragement, our success wouldn’t have been possible,” he said.
