Abubakar Vakil Passes away
The Muslim community of Southern California is mourning the sad demise of a great human being and highly respected community icon, Br. AbubakarVakil who passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019.
Inna lillahiwainnailayhiraji'oon
May Allah rest his departed soul in eternal peace in Jannah and give his family the fortitude and courage to bear the monumental loss. My heartfelt condolences and sincere prayers are with his entire family during this most difficult time of their life.
Br. AbubakarVakil was a very decent, kind-hearted, caring and extremely generous person. I had the privilege of working with him closely on several religious, social and humanitarian projects over the last three decades. He was a founding member of the Islamic Center of San Gabriel Valley (ICSGV), the third largest Islamic Center in Southern California, and served as its first Vice President from its inception in 1982 through 1992. When ICSGV decided to purchase a church to meet the demands of the growing community, Br. AbubakarVakil assumed the responsibility and did a fantastic job of converting the church into a beautiful Masjid. He used to check the progress of the new Masjid every day to avoid unnecessary delay.
May Allah bless him for all his good deeds. His death is not only a great loss to his family, he will also be sorely missed by the entire Muslim community. He was truly a community icon.
Br. AbubakarVakil is survived by his loving wife, sister ZaibunissaVakil and children Ghazala, Irfan, Farah, Rizwan and Kamran. He was the eldest son of late UmerVakil and Late Amina Vakil. His siblings include Usman Vakil, Farooq Vakil, IshaqVakil and Iqbal Vakil.
Funeral prayer for Br. AbubakarVakil were held at the Islamic Society of Corona-Norco on Friday, January 4, 2019 and he was laid to rest in the Corona Cemetery.

Pakistan Link shares the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family. Vakil Sahib was a quintessential gentleman embodying qualities of the shurafa – virtuous nobility – of yesteryear. His impeccable manners, ingrained civility, and winsome smile will remain infinitely etched on memory. May his soul rest in peace. (Ameen) - AMF
