As a national organization, we consistently seek input from American Muslims across the country, which includes our expanding board of directors. We are excited to announce three newly-elected board members who will bring their expertise, insights, and a breadth of perspectives from their communities in Washington DC and Michigan.Zaki Barzinji was the first senior official to hold the position of White House Liaison to Muslim-Americans as President Obama’s Senior Associate Director of Public Engagement. Prior to his appointment, Zaki served as Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for Governor Terry McAuliffe, as the Director of the Southern Business Council, and as President of the Muslim Youth of North America, the oldest and largest organization representing young Muslim-Americans. Zaki’s experience in government relations, public policy, and strategic communications will greatly benefit our work.
Founder and President of Bridge Strategies LLC, Brenda Abdelall has served as charities director at a national legal advocacy organization, Senior Director at a Washington, DC healthcare legislative advocacy firm, and as a member of the international law firm Sidley Austin LLP. Brenda has represented clients including the Tahirih Justice Center, the National Law Center for Homelessness and Poverty, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. A former Graduate Fellow with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)’s Legislative Office, Brenda has dedicated her career to social justice. We are honored to have her join the board.
Attorney Muna Jondy specializes in immigration law and has served as the policy chairperson on the board. Co-chair for the Flint, Michigan unit of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Muna also sits on the District Character and Fitness Committee of the Michigan State Bar Association. Muna holds a Master’s of Law (LLM) from the Michigan State University College of Law, and we look forward to her expertise on policy issues.
We appreciate your support for our expanding team and are grateful to serve communities nationwide through this collaborative work.
