Los Angeles County Sheriff Holds Grand Interfaith Iftar
Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva held an Interfaith Iftar in LA Countyon a grand scale at the STAR Center. The invitees at the iftar included the Consul Generals of Pakistan, Azerbijian, Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, Iraq, Greece, Bangladesh as well as interfaith leaders and prominent members of the Los Angeles County.
Sheriff Villanueva honored and presented certificates of recognition to some of the invitees in recognition of their outstanding interfaith and community work. They included Council of Pakistan Chairman Adnan Khan and COP board members including FirozeFakhri, Ismail KeeKeebhai, Jamal Khawaja, ZubairRawda and QaziAsad. Tehmina A Khan was also honored by Sheriff Villanueva for her community work.
Consul General of Azerbaijan and Dean of the Los Angeles Consular Corps NasimiAghayev spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of constant interaction and engagement among various faith and ethnic groups. Dean Aghayev expressed his profound appreciation for Sheriff Alex Villanueva’s visionary leadership in reaching out to the County’s Muslim community as well as other communities, bringing them together, and highlighting the precious value of respect for diversity and interfaith harmony.
The Iftar prayer ceremony was performed by QaziAsad.
Commenting on the Iftar event, Chairman Council of Pakistan Adnan Khan stated that Sheriff Alex Villanueva is working hard to build a strong interfaith community and his staff has been engaged in interfaith dialog with all communities that call the LA County their home.
Elected in 2018 and having a stellar law enforcement career, Sheriff Villanueva leads the largest Sheriff department in the world and one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the US. With 18,000 employees and a $3.5 billion budget, the Department serves 42 cities, 141 communities and many more entities of the 10 million-strong Los Angeles County.
