Prof Dr Syed Masoom Ali Tirmizi Passes Away

Dr Masoom Ali Tirmizi, a prominent physicist and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi, passed away in Karachi on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. DrTirmizi was a distinguished educator who excelled in serving the academia in Pakistan, especially at University of Karachi.
DrTirmizi joined the University of Karachi in 1952 as a professor in the Department of Physics. He received his DPhil from Oxford University. He served as VC of the University of Karachi from 1979 to 1983. He was an able administrator. During his academic career he taught and advised thousands of students. He also mentored hundreds of his colleagues.
DrMasoom Ali Tirmizi was married to prominent marine biologist, DrNasimaTirmizi, who passed away earlier in 2005. The academic team of DrMasoom and DrNasimaTirmizi, during their tenures at the University of Karachi, taught, advised and mentored thousands of students, who are successful professionals all over Pakistan and around the globe.
