Shura Representatives Break Fast with LAPD
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) held an Interfaith Iftar at its headquarters. The invitees, according to the Shura Council of Southern Council, included the ‘Muslim leadership including the Shura Council of Southern California and and the Consul Generals of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Siri Lanka, Senegal and many other countries. This was the first ever Interfaith Iftar LAPD has held at their headquarters and we thank the leadership of LAPD for holding an interfaith Iftar bringing faith leaders and communities together.’
Los Angeles Commissioner AmnaQazi attended the Iftar and spoke at the event. Dr Ahmed Soboh, Chair of the Shura, was on the panel of speakers and shared his reflections on the virtues of sacrifice in Ramadan and beyond Ramadan. Shura was also represented by Waqas Syed, Board Secretary and board members ArbazzMizami and Fauzia Siddiqui.’
"This event strengthens the relationship between the LAPD and the Muslim Community in the city of LA, and keeps the channels of communication open for better service and protection of the community from potential harms," Dr Ahmed Soboh said. He added, "It would not have been possible if it was not for the efforts of Sergeant Luqman Watkins, who, recently joined the LAPD and has been working diligently on the LAPD outreach efforts towards our community."
Shura Council extends its best wishes for the LAPD officers, especially those who are fasting in Ramadan, for a blessed month and prays for their safety.
