25 years of Haleem Tradition Observed by Greater Los Angeles Community!
Sunday September 29, 2019 - Karachi Club of Greater Los Angeles has maintained the old tradition alive by observing 25 years of Haleem Gathering at Atlantis Park, Garden Grove, California. It all started when a few community members and residents of Garden Grove had taken the initiative to keep Karachi's cultural heritage alive in commemoration of the holy month of Muharram.
Like previous years, six big "Deghs" of delicious finger licking Haleem were prepared and served by NooraniRestaurant along with freshly prepared naans, delicious gulab jamuns and traditional tea. Over 1,000 people who had joined this momentous event from surrounding counties of Greater Los Angeles area, including members of the Haleem Committee -MrSamin Farooqui, Mr Kamal Zafar, MrMobinBaig, MrArif Abbas, Mr Shaukat Kari and Mr Nadeem Siddiqui. Ex-Federal Minister (MQM) of Port & Shipping, Mr Babar Khan Ghauri, who was an active member of the community when he resided in Los Angeles, was also present on the occasion.
Talking to the media, members of the Haleem Committee extended their gratitude to the community members for keeping this tradition alive. They also thankedall volunteers for all their assistance with the logistics and, most importantly, the sponsors, whose contributions and participation made it possible to arrange the Haleem party for the last 25 years. Mr Moe Ishaq, Mr Jamal Khawaja, Mr Anwar Memon, Mr Shahnawaz Dara, Dr SanoberBaig, Mrs. Rubina Farooqui, Mr Jamil Ahmed, MrMehfoozAlam, Mr Siraj Qadri, Mr Farooq (NooraniRestaurant), Mr Anas Shah (Shah distributors) and many other notable community members were present on the occasion.
