Community Mourns the Demise of Abubakar Rokerya
The Muslim community of San Gabriel Valley in Southern California is mourning the sad demise of an active and highly respected community member Brother Abubakar Rokerya who passed away on Friday, December 10, 2020.Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon
May Allah rest his departed soul in eternal peace in Jannat-al-Firdaus and give his family fortitude and courage to bear this monumental loss. My heartfelt condolences and sincere prayers are with his entire family during this most difficult time in their life.
Br. Abubakar Rokerya was the loving father of Maryam Mansuri, Anjum Rokerya and Arshad Rokerya, father-in-law of Munir Mansuri and brother-in-law of all Vakil brothers. His wife had also passed away in the recent past.
Br. Abubakar Rokerya was one of the founding members of the Islamic Center of San Gabriel Valley which was established in 1982. Soon after, he was elected to serve as the Treasurer and did a fantastic job by bringing fiscal discipline and establishing financial controls for the smooth operations of the Islamic Center. He had a great passion and love for serving the cause Allah Almighty. The Islamic Center had become his second home. He used to take care of all errands and other petty things all by himself with the goal of improving the image of the Islamic Center of San Gabriel Valley as an 'exemplary Islamic Center' in Southern California. That is why the community kept on re-electing Br. Abubakar Rokerya as the 'Treasurer' year after year for decades.
I had the pleasure of working with Br. Rokerya very closely as Board Member and also when I established and published a religious magazine 'Nida-ul-Islam' for our Islamic Center on a regular basis from the 80's to the end of the 90's. Nida-ul-Islam was widely distributed and had become very popular throughout North America. Br. Abubakar Rokerya was extremely consciousof his responsibilities as Treasurer and always made timely payments for printing, mailing and local distribution. Believe me, I never heard a single complaint from any one for non-payment of their bills over the years. Hats off to Br Abubakar Rokerya for always doing a great job for our Islamic Center! May Allah accept all your good deeds and bless you and your family. Ameen!
